NRDC Climate Storytelling Fellowship 2025: $20,000 for Screenwriters Telling Climate Change Stories

A new opportunity opens up for screenwriters who want to tell stories about climate change through film and television. The Black List, in partnership with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), The Redford Center, CAA Foundation, and NBCUniversal, has launched the fourth edition of the NRDC Climate Storytelling Fellowship. The program will award three $20,000 fellowships to writers or writing teams to support the revision of feature screenplays or TV pilots that engage with climate change in compelling ways.

The Black List, founded in 2005, is one of the most influential platforms in the film industry, originally created as an annual survey of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays. Today, it has evolved into a comprehensive resource for the creative industry, connecting thousands of industry professionals with emerging talents from over 100 countries.

The fellowship offers more than financial support: winners will receive guidance from professional screenwriters, climate storytelling consultants, and NRDC experts. Participants will have six months to revise their scripts, which may then be reviewed for development by prominent studios, agencies, and production companies including CAA, NBCUniversal, UTA, and WME.

Scripts of any genre are eligible, as long as climate change influences action and/or characters. Both TV pilots and feature screenplays are accepted, in English, from writers of any nationality, represented or not.

The deadline for submissions is December 5, 2024. Winners will be announced by April 30, 2025.
